Every community in Ontario has its own unique culture and heritage.
Each city, town, township or county has places, spaces and stories that enrich it, inspire it, enlighten it, and guide it in its growth and development.
These places are integral parts of the identity of our communities, but they also play a significant role in economic development by helping to enhance a community’s quality of life, strengthen its distinctiveness, stimulate revitalization and attract tourist dollars.

Although Wilmot Township, as it is now known, had its “official” beginnings in 1850, its settlement actually began much earlier. For centuries previous to the late 1800’s tribes of First Peoples lived seasonally in the area. A Native encampment along the banks of the Nith River served to remind original settlers that they were strangers to this new land.
The purpose of the Heritage Wilmot Committee is to advise and assist the Council and staff of The Township of Wilmot on any matter relating to the designation and conservation of property of cultural heritage value or interest, and to promote heritage interests and to assist with the recognition of the historical continuity within the community.
